Day 120 – Friday 6th July 2018
An overcast morning.
In all my walks along the tide line here on the Baltic I have never seen any plastic being washed up. In the Med, even on the beautiful beaches around St Tropez, there is tons and tons of plastic being washed up but I guess that’s what happens when share a sea with the Italians and a load of Arabs.
The new data SIM card I have been waiting for has been returned to sender! Apparently it was incorrectly addressed! Fuckin’ brilliant.
Julie wants to go home. Her mother’s house is due to be sold next Friday and she wants to tidy up all the paperwork and pay everyone.
I’m not averse to going home for a few weeks; when I was trying to book campsite in Sweden yesterday everywhere was full and I can’t see it getting any better until the school holidays are over. Also I’ve got a big To Do List for Nelly and it’ll be much easier to get things done in the UK and most importantly we badly need some Garner’s pickled onions.
Watched the France Uruguay match, it wasn’t a classic but it’s nice to see a cheat like Luis Suarez out of the competition.
Got our seats early for the Brazil Belgium game. Some Polish tit put a post-it with RESERVED written on it on a table then turned up 10 minutes before kick-off and was surprised there was another big fat Pole sat there. Cue shouting match. Handbags really.
The match was fabulous. Everyone cheered when Belgium scored. When Brazil scored I was the only one to cheer. WTF is up with these Poles, Czechs & Germans? When it comes to football everyone should love Brazil.
Day 121 – Saturday 7th July 2018
D-Day!
Overcast & up early. Instead of my walk along the beach I went looking to see it there were any Swedes on the camp.
No Swedes is good news because everyone should be cheering for England. After all in one of Poland’s darkest hours we went to war with Germany for them and hundreds of thousands of Brits died fighting for their and other Europeans’ freedom.
Pretty obvious to me that we need to leave the EU sooner rather than later.
The whole of Scotland must be in complete mourning
Day 122 – Sunday 8th July 2018
On the road for 7½ hours today. That’s too long for Cfor but we had to break the back of the journey to Calais.
The Blauer See in Garbsen is a bit of a water sports hotspot. They have this wonderful contraption that drags people round the lake on water skis. Looks like some people are on snowboards too.
If we didn’t have a ferry booked for Wednesday morning I’d have like to have tried my hand a water skiing.
Only joking, I always enjoyed working with D watch; they were all great guys and had a fantastic chemistry & I never tired of the photos of Rob’s £1m back garden. Good luck to all of them.
Day 123 – Monday 9th July 2018
Driving on German motorways you don’t see a lot of high end German cars; Porsches are rare as are flash Mercedes and you hardly see any BMWs. You do see a hell of a lot of VWs though.
I have to say I have not really enjoyed my time in Germany. As a vegetarian the food has been next to uneatable. Like Poland German cuisine seems to consist entirely of bratwurst, potatoes and gravy. They have some kebab shops as they have a large Turkish community but if you want a Chinese, an Italian or Indian you will struggle.
Painful trip to Veldhoven. All roadworks and wrong turns. To top it all the exhaust has gone.
Day 124 – Tuesday 10th July 2018
If it’s Tuesday it must be Belgium & France. The traffic around Antwerp was horrendous but eventually we made the aire at Cite de Europe. Going to watch the France Belgium match here in The Black Bull pub. I want Belgium to win. If England fluke it to the final the last thing I want is to lose to France.
Day 125 – Wednesday 11th July 2018
Up early and on the ferry.
Of course when back in England Doris proudly reported the M25 closed. WTF is wrong with the UK.
Eventually back home I had a lot of work to do. Unfortunately Julie’s Smart car had a flat tyre and wouldn’t start. To cap it all her breakdown insurance had lapsed. Cue a long day.
After about an hour of trying to charge the Smart car battery with still no success we gave up. We don’t really need the car right now. What we need is to get some new breakdown cover and to call them in a week no so.
To the more pressing matter of Nelly’s exhaust. I’m told it is not a standard exhaust and I’ll have to have one custom made.
England went out of the World Cup. They had their chances in the first half but failed to take them. Once Croatia were ahead they showed fantastic gamesmanship by wasting as much time a humanly possible.. England need to learn that; you want to win semi-finals then learn every trick it the book and then invent some new ones.
A national holiday in Sweattysockland.
126 – Thursday 12th July 2018
Spent the day doing the hedges at Park Lane East. I think I should raise the rent and hire a gardener.
Found a garage that makes custom stainless steel exhausts and which has ramps big enough for Nelly. When I asked how much it was likely to cost he said between £200 and £900. The good news is they can do it next week.
