Week 11

Day 71 – Friday 18th May 2018

A beautiful morning, off to the Chapelle Sainte-Anne for something to do with the end of Fete Patronale et Traditionnelle de Saint Tropez. I’m not normally a great one for churches but this happens to be the church Mick Jagger married Bianca in in 1971, once the Priest had relented and opened the door for him.

Chapelle Sainte-Anne, Ramatuelle

The Chapelle Sainte-Anne is on a hill top with a great view of Saint-Tropez

It has to be said the chapelle has seen better days.

The chapelle is only open for the one day a year on 18th May

the alter

St Tropes, he gets everywhere

the locals

It was a huge picnic and they were knocking back the rosé before 10am. We headed into town for a wander round and lunch on the harbour wall.

Day 72 – Saturday 19th May 2018

To Pampelonne beach; baking hot, came home after 3 hours and sat in the shade reading. A lot of plastic in the sea but I don’t imagine much of it originated in France probably all from Italy & North Africa. Pretty depressing really.

Day 73 – Sunday 20th May 2018

Up early, packed up and off to Cannes. Going to the campsite we were looking for when Doris sent us down a dead end dirt track back in March.

the front garden we had to turn around in back in March

No problems finding Camping Bellevue this time, just ignored Doris for the final 100 yards.

We were shown to a shady pitch and were quickly got set up. We are staying just the three nights before going back to Antibes.

After lunch we set off on Zippy for Cannes town centre.

The film festival finished yesterday and there are people every where dismantling stages and stuff

The red carpet was still there

On second viewing I’m not so sure I like the actual Croisette in Cannes. On the roadside it is all expensive ‘designer’ shops and expensive hotels and on beachfront it is all private beaches & expensive restaurants; there’s nothing for Joe Bloggs.

The Carlton

The hoi polloi are only allowed on the beach at either end. I much prefer Nice as a town.

Day 74 – Monday 21st May 2018

Overcast start to the day. Julie has a bad back so I’m going to spend the day reading in the shade.

Cfor came out to explore, he’s such a good boy

Day 75 – Tuesday 22nd May 2018

‘kin ‘ell it didn’t half rain last night, our pitch is very waterlogged this morning and it’s still raining.

Nothing worse than a waterlogged grass pitch

Another day reading I think, this time inside. Good job I have Kindle Unlimited.

Day 76 – Wednesday 23rd May 2018

Beautiful morning. Travelled back to La Vieille Ferme just outside Antibes. In the afternoon Julie got stuck into the housework, she keeps the van immaculately tidy.  I busied myself replenished our supplies of essentials: beer, wine & water.

of course it rained

good job the AC has a heater setting

The section of the campsite we are in here is overwhelmingly populated by English people, and I’ve learnt the collective noun for English people drinking rosé at lunchtime is an embarrassment

Day 77 – Thursday 24th May 2018

I had planned for us to go to Monaco today and have a look at the race track before Sunday’s GP but the French railways are on strike; typical. So it’s into Nice.

We had a good wander round.

the beach at Nice is pebbled, like Brighton

happy idiot

Couldn’t find the midday cannon though, something for another day.

Tomorrow, Monaco.
